The boys in the senior section will usually be working towards the Boy’s Brigade’s highest award the Queens Badge as well as completing their silver and gold Duke of Edinburgh awards.
Once Boys enter the senior section we encourage them to help out in other sections and develop their own leadership skills.
The Boys’ Brigade have in the past 12 months introduced a new programme for Seniors called ‘ Challenge Plus’ which we are gradually introducing in our programme ensuring that or seniors continue to have fun at BB.
The Senior section meets alongside the Company section although it often has its own activities to take account of the differing ages of the boys.
The Duke of Edinburgh award is a national award the aims to encourage all young people to fulfil their potential.
The award has 3 levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold. The Gold award which is usually presented by the Duke of Edinburgh himself at St. James Palace in London is an award that is recognised by both universities and employers.
The award is split in 4 sections – volunteering, skills, physical and expedition. At Bronze level boys need to do 3 months in each of the sections together with a two day expedition over c. 15 miles. This increases to 12 months in each of the sections and a four day expedition over c. 50 miles for the Gold award.
When working towards their DOE award we often work with the local education authority and the Girls’ Brigade.
In 2009 we had 3 members collect their Gold awards from St. James's Palace. We have a further nine members who are current;y working towards their gold awards.
