Those in the Company Section take part in the Discover programme that enables boys to take part in a fun, balanced and challenging programme and to be recognised for their effort and achievement with a series of badges.
It's all about learning new skills, making your own decisions and having fun. BB provides a safe environment to explore new possibilities and achieve personal goals while making friends and having adventures. Within the Discover programme there are 3 programme zones - Community, Recreation, and Skills. Throughout a typical evening, boys participate in various activities which contribute to the badge schem. In addition as part of evening we have a regular devotion session during which the boys can learn and develop their Christian faith.
The boys earn badges (see picture) and also have a smart uniform (see useful info page for details)
During the year the boys are awarded points for attendance, participation in activities and competitions as well as attendance at church parades. The results are announced as part of our annual awards evening held in July.
Each year the boys also have the opportunity to go on a long weekend camp.
Once boys are 14 years old we can offer you the opportunity to work towards your Duke of Edinburgh Award.
The Duke of Edinburgh award is a national award the aims to encourage all young people to fulfil their potential.
The award has 3 levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold. The Gold award which is usually presented by the Duke of Edinburgh himself at St. James Palace in London is an award that is recognised by both universities and employers.
The award is split in 4 sections – volunteering, skills, physical and expedition. At Bronze level boys need to do 3 months in each of the sections together with a two day expedition over c. 15 miles. This increases to 12 months in each of the sections and a four day expedition over c. 50 miles for the Gold award. Many of the activities required to gain the awards can be undertaken at BB on a Monday night.
In 2009 we had 3 members collect their Gold awards and have seven members who started working towards the gold award in 2009.
