The Boys' Brigade has been around for 126 years and is the oldest uniformed youth organisation. The BB was founded by Sir William Alexander Smith in 1883 in Glasgow. The BB Object is "The Promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness" and this hasn’t changed in 126 years.
Each week The Boys' Brigade works with thousands of young people, many of whom have no other connection with the Church. Today we are working with over 60,000 children & young people in over 1500 companies in the UK & Republic of Ireland every week.
The Boys' Brigade provides a balanced programme of activities for children and young people from 5 to 18 years old. These resources have been developed to help volunteer youth leaders work in a relevant and creative way. We hope through these programmes they will be able to make a positive contribution to a young person's life and be able to share their faith.
The 1st Oadby Boys’ Brigade has been serving the young people of Oadby for almost 50 years and we are one of the largest companies in Leicestershire. We are part of Oadby Baptist Church with our chaplain being our minister Rev Ellen Price.
Many of our members, past and present, have achieved the highest BB award the Queens badge as well as the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Whilst we are proud of our history we have a great desire to ensure our programme is both dynamic and retains the interests of young people today.
Our work is split into age groups as follows:
• Anchors for Boys aged 4 and in school year 1
• Junior section for Boys in school years 2-5
• Company section for Boys in school years 6+
• Seniors
Whilst all of our staff are volunteers, we have all received training in working with young people and have been CRB checked.
